NETS-A Exemplars Project

Digital Storytelling: Showcasing Examples of the NETS-A in Practice

Presenters:

Fawn Brunson, Tech Instructor/Coordinator, Baltimore City Schools

Karen Muska, Instructional Technologist, Oakland Unified School District

Inga Schoenbrun, Math Curriculum Coordinator, The Potomac School

Question:

How do current and aspiring administrators demonstrate proficiency in the NETS-A in their practice? Join us as we use digital stories to showcase NETS-A exemplars.

Overview:

This project addresses the need to showcase the transformative power of the NETS-A (National Educational Technology Standards for Administrators). Participants will view digital stories that highlight exemplary applications of the NETS-A in real world settings. All of the digital stories are available for use in professional development initiatives in your district. See the NETS-A come alive for aspiring, innovative educational leaders.

Process:

A team of JHU-ISTE interns examined JHU digital portfolios for artifacts that represented exemplary applications fo the NETS-A. These examples were then used to create digital stories that clearly explain and demonstrate the effective use of each NETS-A. Each team member used a digital storymap to design their storyboard. The team participated in feedback sessions and composed their digital stories. The completed stories were shared and critiqued.

Results:

Each digital story took a unique journey. The collection as a whole provides a variety fo approaches to telling the story of inspiring administrators and leaders. We found the process engaging and discussed future adjustments which could strengthen the power of the message. The NETS-A are transformative!

Significance:

The importance of sharing exemplars, recording of the process and journey to becomming transformative administrators, and the "story" behind the work is invaluable. Each person takes their own journey from the central core the NETS-A provides.
